Kathmandu, Aug 7: ‘The Hem Bahadur Malla Honour’, established after an able administrator Hem Bahadur Malla, has been conferred on diplomat Dr Bhesh Bahadur Thapa for the year 2079BS on Wednesday.
President Ramchandra Paudel handed over the Honour to diplomat Thapa amidst a special programme organized by Nepal Public Administration Association in the federal capital, Kathmandu.
The award carries the purse of Rs 200 thousand. It was instituted by the Association with the sponsorship of Salt Trading Corporation.
Dr Thapa was provided the Honour in recognition to his untiring contribution to Nepal’s socioeconomic, academic and diplomatic realms for five decades, according to Association’s Chairman Madhu Raman Acharya.
Dr Thapa became a member secretary of the National Planning Commission, secretary of finance ministry, Nepal Rastra Bank Governor, and foreign minister.
Moreover, he worked as a coordinator of Eminent Persons’ Group from Nepali side.
The award selection committee was formed under the coordination of former secretary and finance minister Shankar Prasad Koirala having members as past Chairman of the Association, Krishna Hari Banskota, Chairman of Salt Trading Corporation, Pradip Lal Shrestha, secretary Bindu Bista and former secretary Sishir Kumar Dhungana.
The late Malla was also the founder chair of Salt Trading Corporation.
The Association was established in 2047BS in a bid to foster relations among academia, administration and management, and to provide feedback to government in public policy making and review.(RSS)
